It's sad because, if we're honest with ourselves, the holiday is so needed because we don't say thanks nearly enough. We could all be better about being grateful, at least I know I can. We let the 'thank you's' and the 'I love you's' slide. We miss our opportunities, and sometimes they can't be found again. The great thing about it, however, is that there is a whole day where we can reflect on the awesomeness that is in our lives. We can take a deep breath and look around at the things that have made our lives amazing in the past year. It's a moment of calm, where there are no stores or gimmicks to draw your attention. There's just family, friends, pets, and loved ones. It's a reprieve; it's a moment to fully appreciate what matters most.
For me, the year has been impossibly wonderful. I've felt like I've met a lot of truly amazing, sweet people. I have my husband, we have our health, and my dog is as hilarious as always. Despite how much I love them, my true thankfulness this year comes from you. That's right: I'm talking to you.
I don't think I can begin to articulate how much the fans I've met along the way mean to me. You guys have encouraged me, given me strength, and geeked out over Clare and Daniel's story as much as I have. You keep me writing, and you keep me excited about where I'm headed next.
The year has been a roller coaster ride of ups and downs. I've experienced my first wave of truly negative comments, I've had people call me useless and a hack, but around that awfulness, I've had some of the sweetest people on the internet write to tell me how much my story has meant to them. They're eager for what's next, and they're far kinder to me than I probably deserve. They are truly fans. And let's face it, anyone who is trying to make it in writing is nothing without their fans. Some authors ignore their fans, some pretend as if the fans are owed nothing, (because we so magnanimously grant you with the gift of our writing!), but the simple truth is that fans are everything. Without you guys buying my books, I would be back to where I was a year ago. (Not a happy place, I can assure you). Every single day that I get up and have a message in my inbox telling me someone has written in to me, I smile.
I'm so appreciative and awed by your kindness.
So in this month of giving thanks, I wanted to celebrate you in the only way I really know how. I want to give you a free book. Before you get all squeal-tastic and scare the crap out of your pets and children with how high your voice can really go on the register, it's not Clare and Daniel's story. Sorry. I'm still editing that one. The story I want to give you is one I have no intention of releasing this year. I haven't announced it. It's sort of a secret. I planned on releasing it after The Guardian Series and The Cursed Trilogy were over. It's going to be my next project. And I want to give it to some of you for free.
I feel like I should let you know a couple of things about the story before I get to the nitty-gritty of the giveaway. The book is called Revelation. It's the first book of what will be a trilogy. It is fiction, not fantasy. It's told from two different perspectives, the two main protagonists, Willa and Sterling. It's action, it's mysterious, it's romance, and it's pretty fraking awesome. I'm totally in love with the story. It makes me smile just to think about it. If you're more of a fantasy junkie, however, this story might not be for you. No magic or stepping into the place in-between. Just a lot of fighting and crazy karate chopping. And, oh yeah, some people falling in love.
So, if you're interested, I'm going to give the book away to the first thirty people who comment below. Thirty is the absolute limit! I'm going to leave it open until Thanksgiving, at 11:59 p.m. Then, I'm going to tally them up and send away via the emails you give me. The book is going to be in PDF form, so if that's un-doable, again, don't put your name down.
UPDATE 11-14: FREE GIVEAWAY IS OFFICIALLY CLOSED! THANKS!
Here are the rules:
1) Put 'I want a free book!' in the comments section below to enter your name.
2) Your entry must be on my blog. I won't accept it anywhere else. I can't look in a billion different places for your names. I'll go crazy if I try to do that. If it's not here, I won't accept it.
3) I'm gonna go by the time stamp given to me by the website. No complaining if you don't make the cut. Don't make it icky for everyone else. It's all for fun's sake.
4) It's in PDF form. No complaints, please!
5) Thanksgiving, or when we reach the thirty-person limit, is the cutoff. Sorry!
6) If you like what you read, let me know about it!
Okay, so those are the rules. I hope that you guys know how much you mean to me. And I hope this giveaway, in some way, returns all the kindness you've shown me (a tall order, I know).
For those of you who might be wondering, the third Guardian book is in the editing stages. It's being made spectacularly awesome. When this giveaway is finished, I'll have the title for you. Promise. If you want more up-to-date information on the books, be sure to follow me on Facebook and Twitter. Sometimes, it's easier to make fast posts on there than posting on here.
Anyways, thanks for everything! See you next time! : )
